Book Review: Peaches By Jodi Lynn Anderson

This A Definite Beach Read!

This is the type of book that you could read in the middle of the winter and you’d actually be excited about Summer! Even though I read it MONTHS ago and I’m just getting around to posting about it, just thinking about how good it was is making me wish my summer hadn’t been waisted babysitting and walking around my neighborhood. That’s EXACTLY how I feel about my summer when I compare it to this book. When I think of the really great way she allows you to see each character from their own point of view as well as that others I’d have to say that my favorite character would have to be murphy simply because I think she had the most interesting, hilarious, crazy, and cynical point of view of them all and that she was the one character that made you most interested in the story. If you wann read a good book add this one to your list!

Book Review: Teen Idol by Meg Cabot

All I know is that I had an amazing post for this book and somehow I did the wrong thing and I lost it, as you may know this is an old post (so much for updating my posts) and actually needed a lot of work, so, here I am re-writing something that I’d already written….. I just loved this book right down to the way that everything that just flowed, I couldn’t put it down (chores went undone, my room got junky, anyways you get the point) and what better is that Meg Cabot is just an awesome writer. Even though I’ve only read two of her other books (the first two princess diaries books, in a row I might add) I just love her writing style and the way that the characters are so real that you just get lost in their stories. I’m almost surprised that they haven’t named her one of the greatest authors of our time (that’s just how great her writing is). I’d definitely recommend her books to anyone who’s interested…..

I’ve Just Finished Reading…..

Well, the long awaited completion of East of Eden has finally arrived and it was extremely long but it’s not like it wasn’t a good book or anything. In fact, it was such a good book that while I was reading the last pages I couldn’t put it down, it was kind of like watching Wild Things for the first time all over again with all of the twists and turns that keep you watching and makes it impossible for you to stop.By the way, what is Neve Campbell doing now? I mean she’s not only one of my favorite actresses but, she’s got to be one of the best actresses of our time and I bet she doesn’t even know it. Others than that I don’t think anything else is up so, I guess I’ll be moving on to some of those other very interesting books that I have on my bookshelves just waiting for me to devour them from cover to cover. I think I’ll read This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen next. TTFN!

Book Review: The Au Pairs

Ok. I’m not even going to mention my former status as a non-existent blogger, I mean you know how it gets. You get a little busy and you forget about doing certain things and blogging just happens to be one of those things and it’s not as if blogging hasn’t been calling my name for months now anyways. I’ve been thinking about topics to write about and when to write about them I just haven’t actually gotten to the writing part yet. Anyways, you’ve probably guessed by now that I read The Au Pairs (that among other books) and so now I’ve got to tell you about how great this book was. I must say, this was the book since Teen Idol, and you may or may not know how I feel about that book, (considering that I accidentally deleted that post awhile ago and nobody got to see it) I almost feel as if it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read. I’ll actually tell you more about that book later but, for now onto The Au Pairs. When I heard that it was a “steamy beach read” I didn’t actually believe it but, now I am a believer, it was so juicy that I was either stunned into silence or giddiness half the time that I was reading it. It was just THAT good. I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a good book and you wanna know what the best part is? I here that the books get even steamier every time those three crazy girls get together. Up next for me The Au Pairs book 2: Skinny Dipping.

I’m In The Middle Of…..

I’m in the middle of reading East Of Eden by John  Steinbeck and it’s really good. Other than that, I really don’t know because, I’ve taken a stand against my 100 books a year list simply because it was all based on people and being able to say “I read 100 books this year”! I didn’t even really enjoy reading all those books and when I got really behind (which I did) I found myself almost depressed because I had read that set amount that I had to read every month. I also ended up really lonely at times because (reading all those books) consumes allof your time and overall I just wasn’t happy (have you ever found yourself taking on the same mood as the book your reading? yeah, not good). Now, I’ve actually been reading more because I’m enjoynig it and I get to pick and choose specifically which book I want to read anyways, that really gives me a chance to Start All Over.

Book Review: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

This book was cool in an old time kinda way. I guess I expected more, considering all the hype. Anyways, if there is one thing I must say about this book it’s that everything is open to interpretation. You can basically take the things he says anyway you want. The ending was pretty crazy and makes you think, I mean I was trying to figure it out two days later and even had as my mom over and over again if she could figure it out. She (who has read it 4 or 5 times) couldn’t figure it out herself. I guess that you could probably interpret it anyway that you want to each and every-time that you read it, depending on how you feel each time. I’ll tell you one thing though, this would make a heck of a movie starring like Nicole Kidman, Renee Zelweger, Scarlett Johanson, Natalie Portman, or Keira Knightley. Don’t ya think that would make a good movie though? Anyways, I must mention the part when Nick says that he’s the “most honest person that he knows”, I don’t necessarily think that’s true. He’s only as honest as he wants tobe when it’s convenient. Well, you’ve got to read this so add it to your booklist!

Book Review: Prep by Curtis Sittenfield

O.k., when I finished reading this book I was a little confused about the ending. First of all the book started off pretty good, even promising and then it hits you that this is obviously not going to have a fairytale ending. I even thought  it was a little cryptic and is for those who don’t believe that good things happen all the time.If she (Lee Fiora) just stopped focusing on bad things happening to her and not being popular she would definitely have had a far better experience. She lied to herself and to everyone around her, the girl needed some Prozac. I mean there kept being times when I was like this is your time to finally get what you want but, she disappoints you again by doing nothing about it. Your just waiting for something good to happen to her and it never does. I mean, half way through the book and I’m thinking “this is one mixed up individual” and “what kinda school”? Yet I kept reading about the crazy world of Lee Fiora. Which brings us to her obsession with Cross Sugarman (a jerk). She didn’t love herself at all otherwise she wouldn’t have ever talked to him again after their first run-in. Another thing that I noticed about the book was that it was graphic. There are some things that I just don’t want to know,  it was like Forever (by Judy Blume) all over again. TMI!!!It was obviously made for someone much older than some of those who read it. In the end though it turned out to be a really good book which is easy to say simply for the flash backs and fast forwards (think One Tree Hill) that are featured in the book. Now you see why I stick to my retro books, ah, a time of innocence.

The Truth About It All

The truth about it all is…..

that I’ve been really busy reading books and dealing with school, however, unlike last year I’ve actually accomplished reading 85 books and counting this year. Because of this, I’m really proud of myself for almost accomplishing goals that I’ve set. Right now, I’m in the midst of reading Sweet Valley High book one: Double Love. Yes, I finally got the books, one through seven and many others that I’ve found at Bag of Books Day (at The Salvation Army), The Arc, and  Things are really looking up as I look forward to Christmas and the never ending booklist that I’m always trying to complete. Well, that’s the  truth about it all.

It’s been a little while since I last posted but, I’ve had my reasons. Not very good ones but, you know good enough to pass as O.k. I’ll have you know that Today is my Birthday and what better reason to clear out your old books than to give them to someone for a Birthday present!  It’s the best birthday that I’ve had so far and boy am I happy! A lot of things have been happening since my last post. I’ve read like five more books and I’m working on other projects, I’m even thinking about starting a charity. Won’t that be good? Stay tuned there’s more to see…..
